What is Pancreatitis?
​Pancreatitis is inflammation of the pancreas, a gland located behind the stomach that produces digestive enzymes and insulin. It can be acute (sudden and severe) or chronic (long-lasting).
Causes

Gallstones:Blocking the pancreatic duct.

Alcohol Abuse:Leading to pancreatic damage.

Trauma:Injury to the pancreas.

Autoimmune Conditions: Autoimmune pancreatitis.
Symptoms

Severe abdominal pain that radiates to the back.

Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea.

Fever and rapid pulse.
-
Tender abdomen to touch.
Diagnosis

Blood Tests:Elevated pancreatic enzymes (amylase, lipase).

Imaging Tests:CT scan or MRI to visualize the pancreas.

Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP):Used to examine pancreatic and bile ducts.
Treatment

Pain Management: Medications to relieve pain and discomfort.

Fluid and Nutritional Support: IV fluids and nutrition if unable to eat.

Treatment of Underlying Causes: Removal of gallstones, alcohol cessation, managing autoimmune conditions.
